Copper tube strength for supporting a hose bibb?
Author: Catte (CA)

If this spigot setup was anchored properly to a wall (with van hangers or pipe straps along the vertical pipe) and the joints were properly sweated, would it be sufficiently strong?

My gut instinct is that the weight of a hose tugging downward might be problematic at that elbow, but it's possible I'm underestimating the strength of 1/2" copper pipes.

Thanks in advance for your advice.

no, use an elbow with ears to secure it..

My choice would always be an earred elbow first. Your method or another works but is more labor- intensive.

It is not the strength of the copper pipes you have to worry about, but rather the strength of the elbow, because that is what would "deform" if you put enough pressure on the hose bibb. This is why we use drop ear elbows to secure them.
