are you refering to a pull out sprayer that may become submerged in a sink full of dirty water thereby causing a potential backflow situation?

You will need them on the One Touch faucets, the ones you just touch the faucet with your hand or elbow to turn them on.

Interesting question; made me do some research. Apparently, check valves are required on kitchen faucets IF: 1. It is a "touchless" faucet AND: 2. It has a pull down sprayer.
According to Delta's website, on their faucets with these options, the check valves are already built-in on the appropriate models. The end user does not need to install any additional or after-market parts.

They are built in on the pull out sprayer models but I installed a touch faucet the other day and had to install check valves on the supply stops. They were supplied with the faucet, in another little box. I could see how a homeowner could fail to install them.
