Niagara Stealth low flow toilet install problems
Author: Tom Anderson (CA)

I have re-installed this toilet 6 times today and cannot get it to stop leaking around the wax ring. I have tried the extra thick, and the regular size that came with the unit and nothing works. My home is 1977 vintage and I am wondering if the blast of water is too much for my old plumbing. Is the plumbing today done any differently than 20+ years ago. I have two more to install and am not thrilled about the prospect. Any suggestions would be appreciated. Ok, so now tried another toilet in same spot and one time a charm. Could I have a defective toilet???

are you sure the water is leaking from the bowl and not from the tank to bowl bolts/gasket?
the plumbing is different today than years ago but the way a toilet installs has not changed.

It is not leaking from the tank. It seems like this one was having issues seating to the wax ring and water was leaking at that point. It even leaked without the tank attached and just pouring water down the trap

might be a hairline crack in the porcelain?

since you probably purchased it at Home Depot, the answer is YES. Especially if you reinstalled it several times, and then installed the other one the SAME way and it did not leak.

I had a Kohler toilet like that, years ago, where the sides of the trap were not even fused to the sides. Kohler said that toilets with that type of defect NEVER left the factory, but since this one came from HD, it apparently got through the inspection process.

It turns out I found two small pinholes that allowed the water to come out before the was ring. At least now know we are not crazy. Thanks for all the feedback.
