I am removing a stall shower to correct a problem with its drain (the bathroom is over a slab and I cannot access the drain from below). So, I have to remove the shower valve hardware (hot and cold valves) so that I can move the stall. I have removed that handles and unscrewed the escutcheons, but they do not slide off over the ends of the stems (I'm not sure if I'm using the right name here). The end of the stem is nut shaped and it looks like it is integral to the stem (all one piece). I've tried turning the nut/stem with a wrench, but it does not come out. So, I'm stuck.
How do these come apart? I've spent a lot of time searching the internet for a solution, but I have not seen one like I have. I do not know the brand.
Thank you for your help.

When doing these kinds of jobs, one must know the manufacturer or present a picture so that we can help you.

They may be "fit all" handles and that is the adapter. If so, it should have a small Allen set screw in the side of it. OTherwise we need a photo.

i guessing the handle itself broke apart into 2 pieces and it is not supposed to do that.

The handles came off easily and in one piece each. They fit over the outside and into the center of the end of the "stem". A long screw goes through the center of the handle down into the stem to hold the handle on.
Again, I don't see how the escutcheon comes off past the end of the "stem".
Thank you for your help.

The "end of the stem" has "flats" on it which implies that it unscrews, somehow.
