Moen Monticello Single Handle Shower Repair Problem
Author: flillie (TX)

I have a Moen shower faucet that is leaking badly. I want to install a new cartridge.

My problem is that after I remove the handle, there is a handle adapter that I can't take off.

I can't locate anything that resembles it.

It is made of metal and encases the cartridge stem. It is stuck badly.

I have tried a handle puller but it is starting to bend. Oh I did remove the screw that I thought was holding it to the stem but it didn't help.

We purchased this faucet in 1998. Anyone have any ideas. Thanks

You must not have a very good handle puller, or you are using it wrong. Put the screw back into the stem part way so the puller has something to push against. As soon as the adapter moves, it will come off.

quote; did you remove the clip?

He has to get the handle adapter off BEFORE he can get to the clip, and removing it is the problem he is asking about.

I have this same issue, did you get the metal adapter off and if so, how?
I have poured CLR and white vinegar on it several times.
