depends on your definition of 'guts'??
a leak thru the handle is caused by 'O' rings or packing around a faucet stem.
a drip at the spout is caused by washers and/or seats.
some varieties of faucets contain cartridges which can cause both symptoms.

The brass piece that u pull out of the wall- a cartridge. - the faucet does not leak when turned on or off only when u turn the shower diverter to have a shower. Then the cold water leakes from the handle I thought maybe the diverter had something to do with it since the faucet does not leak otherwise.

no, it is not the diverter. the back pressure from the shower head is causing the water to seep out around the handle. just how you fix it depends on which scenario i described in my above post you have.

The diverter is only creating pressure at the handle. Your problem is a loose packing nut on the stem, or a bad "O" ring, (which is not likely since you stated they are new stems). Tighten the hexagonal nut beneath the handle, if you have one, and the leak will stop.

Never plumb a tub shower supply to the TUB spout with pex not enough back pressure and most mgf point this out in their install directions which few actually read shower head ok just not the tub supply
