 unvented gas logs
Author: freddy64 (PA)

I have a set of unvented gas logs approximately 10 years old. Until about 2 years ago, they worked fine. Then they would light and burn for a while and just shut off. I replaced the pilot/ods and it burned, but would still shut down. I took apart, cleaned and blew out with an air compressor. This helped, but only for about 2-3 weeks. The plot/ods should not need replacing already. Is there something I am missing??

FROM A PARTS REPLACEMENT SITE INSTRUCTIONS...

did you use the correct part???
The LPG8420 Pilot ODS Assembly can be used to replace the LPG8402 also.

The proper ODS Pilot Assembly must be used for the correct model number heater.

This ODS Pilot Assembly should only be ordered if this is the exact replacement part for your heater as listed in you owners manual and viewed in our listings.

Please check the model and part number in your owner’s manual before ordering this ODS Pilot Assembly

I had a similiar issue with a propane log set, 1 year old. Called the rep. He said #1 cause is a dirty pilot, #2 was moisture in the tank, which may depend on the supplier, and if they purge the tank when filling. In extremely cold weather, the moisture can cause the regulator to freeze up.
I cleaned the pilot (did not take apart), used a Q-tip wet with WD-40 to swab all the white crusty stuff in and outside of the pilot orfrice, then used a can of compressed air to blow all the dust out from the little hole on the side of the pilot tube.

Also replaced the batteries in both the remote and control box, contacts shined up. I think the default is if there's not enough DC voltage the gas valve shuts off.

That apparently did the trick... it's working fine now.
