 Tub advice
Author: TBM (NE)

I am in the process of renovating my bathroom and I narrowed my tub choices down and I would like your expert advice on which tub you would recommend and why. I need help deciding between the Kohler Bellwether and the American Standard Cambridge. I need a 60" x 32" for my small space. I want a soaking tub but I also want something that is durable. I am open to other recommendations as well. Thank you for our input.

I generaly consider Kohler to be a higher quality brand. But they are both good tubs.

K-505 mendota would be my choice.

i installed a 32" bellwether a few months ago....very nice tub...AS is garbage...so given those 2 choices id go Kohler 100%

here's the neg. with that particular tub

it needs a special drain because of the odd angle of the overflow....if i were the plumber installing it id add 30 minutes to screw with it....i played with that drain for atleast 30 extra minutes

it also needs an extra long spout...a normal tub spout will not work because of the angle of the overflow wall...i used an 8" Danze because it was all i could find...i complained to Kohler over the spout issue since they dont even make a spout that will work with their tub

they changed the design of the 30" bellwether....and im actually installing one of those in 5 days (a brand new model)

get the tub, but realize its a different styled tub

Thanks for the feedback. Is there another tub you would recommend that is a better option for an affordable but durable soaking tub?

the Villager is great for 30"

my favorite is the Aker aca3260 (list $852)

its acrylic, very deep , has arm rests and is very attractive....i always spec it out

i am seeing a higher demand for cast iron tubs lately though....

the Bellwether is a fine tub....just realize it has some issues for your plumber that may cost you a bit more....the job i did with one looked great...the tub is unique
