 SINK OVERFLOW HOLE
Author: bluesabin (CA)

New bathroom.....I purchased all products including sinks with no overflow hole. Contractor could not install my purchased sinks and went out and bought an American Standard Sink with an overflow hole in it. He had it installed and when I returned to look at it.......the sink should NOT have an overflow hole in it. If water reaches this hole I have no place for water to go. I need to plug this hole with an overflow plate. Does anyone know of any remedy to handle this situation? Thank you, meanwhile I am looking for these plates.

The over flow goes down the drain below the stopper. The passage for overflow is integral to the sink, and he should have used the appropriate drain with it.

Well, we do NOT know why he could not install the sink, because I have not had that problem so far. But any lavatory overflow has an internal passage to direct the water to the drain. If you used a "non overflow" drain, then the sink will just overflow the way it would have if the sink did not have the hole.

here in WI the only fixture requiring a overflow is a tub

i see sinks once in a while w/o overflow's...it doesnt bother me...they are typically low end sinks or sinks from foreign countries

Vessel sinks have no over flow

no need to plug it or worry about it

Many manufactures and the codes are heading to no sink overflows. Reason is that the overflow is used so infrequently that this area is subject to bacteria growth
