I need a Grohe 5-port brush nickel diverter trim, I found out they discontinued the satin nickel finish so those are now available at less than 30% of the brush nickel counterpart. How different looking is satin nickel vs brush nickel on a grohe? It is visibly different right?

i dont know about Grohe, but satin nickel looks a bit in between chrome and BN...it is a bit more shiny than BN
BN is still the #1 finish for bathrooms around here. almost 75% choose it for their new homes and remodels.

I am only doing brush nickel for the master bath and the outdoor kitchen and pool shower, everything else is basic chrome. I did not realize brush nickel is so much more.
One more question, if you have a finish like brush nickel, all your trims - shower, tub, diverter, faucets etc...all brush nickel, what about the lever for toilet tank, exposed angle valve for the toilet supply and shower door handles? It seems in order to have every metal piece brush nickel, I have to pay a real steep price.

Yes you do. If you want to keep up with the big shots it's going to cost you plenty.

There is no industry standard for what any finish really is. Each manufacturer will do it diffently, so brush nickel is not an exact match from one company to another.

Unless they are right next to each other, you probably won't know the difference, and might not even if they WERE adjacent.

to me, the grohe stainless steel finish and the satin nickel is almost a match placed side by each.

almost no one does the straight stop for the toilet.
the trip lever is somewhat rare too w/ BN
if its ORB then i always do the trip lever because its so different. at a glance no one thinks about the trip lever being Chrome vs BN

That would be a "cheap" way to convert a $600.00 chrome faucet into a brushed finish, and when you were done it would probably look "mobile trailery".

Sometimes I wonder if they are doing it just to confuse the market and consumers.
Why make it so difficult?
Chrome is chrome. Make a chrome one. Don't toss out "Polish Chrome", "Starlight Chrome"...how is "Starlight" different from "Polish"? It is so Polish it twinkles? And "Stainless Steel" is yet another close but not quite type finish.
Then Matt Chrome, Satin Chrome, Velour Chrome are also cousins that make your head spin.
By the time you think you know the difference, they toss a new one out "Satin Silver"!!!
Grohe, talk to your brother Hans, get your family act together, damn...

Just so you know, "Polish" refers to a country. "polish" is a finish. The capital "P" changes the pronunciation and meaning.

I think Polish chrome is a new finish. In fact, it might be Finnish!

and if you pronounce polish with an "accent grave", it has a whole different meaning.

Polish chrome? Does that mean the chrome side faces the tub/shower wall?

Brushed Nickel etc.. overrated.. there is a reason Chrome fixtures have lasted so long.. easy to clean, durable and nice looking..

Maybe so, but I wonder how long before someone complains, "I used a can of spray paint like someone advised, and now my faucet looks ugly."

You usually just wash and dry/wipe china, you don't HAVE to polish it. And it doesn't make any difference where it was made.
