 MHT - Male Hose Threads
Author: ericsandstone (TX)

Male Hose Threads:

I have in my rented space two repairs to make.

1) Two washing machine hoses hook up to gate valves with male hose threads on the ends.

I want to cut those out as one is leaking and most likely frozen making it a pain to repair; and install a transition fitting 1/2" copper x 3/4" MHT on the ends of the pipes (hot and cold) instead. Ball valves will be cut in further up the line as I like these more than gate anything.

Q: Does such a transition fitting exist and can I get that from the "orange box"?

2) This other job is replacing a gate valve which controls the hose bib in the front. I'm going with making the new valve more readily accessible and replacing the g valve with a solder stop and waste valve with a bleeder.

Went out and got one of those bernzOmatic deals for this and future jobs.

Q: How are you guys doing?

Why not just sweat a couple of boiler drains onto the pipe after you cut the gate valves off? You can get the boiler drains with the 1/4 turn ball valve type handle.
If that doesn't appeal to you I think you can get the fitting you're looking for but they might have a 1/2" female on the other end rather than sweat.

big box doesn't carry the raven line but a plumbing supply house will.

apollo valve makes alot of different type of connection ends, sweat by hose, fip. by hose etc.

Anything is available somewhere, but what you will be able to find at the HD is a sweat to male PIPE thread fittings, and a threaded adapter pipe to hose thread. This would be quite satisfactory.

I did a stupid b4 starting this thread. Went to HD and got 1/2 x 3/4 MIP ... thinking the size and threads looked good and it would work.

Did a seal test to see if right and now know that the fitting must be solder x MHT.

Printing your suggestions and taking them with self on next trip.

... happy plumbing to you all and thank you.

I think you are making the job much, much more complex than necessary. If you have gate valves now, remove them and install the ball valves in their place. Use threaded ball valves with an adapter, then screw a 1/2" mips x 3/4 MHT into it and fasten your hose.

personally i would just install a couple of ball valves with the hose thread on them just like the ones that you get with washing machine box

This is what the man had in stock at the plumbing supply place:

(2) 1/2" sweat x 1/2" MIP
(2) 1/2" FIP x MHT

I'm doing these projects this upcoming weekend.
