I have 100 year plumbing and a claw tub in my bathroom. I dropped a larger piece of soap down the shower drain last week, and not sure if its related, but when I run water in the tub-water started leaking from the base of the drain pipes base behind the tub. I removed the overflow vent in the tub and snaked it out-no clog detected, but the leak then shifted. I ran the water in the tub to test for leaks, and now its running out from under the drum cap. I removed the plastic drum cap, and used a plastic ribbed tool to remove a huge clog. Also snaked a bit for extra measure, but didnt get too far as it was difficult and didnt want to risk breaking old pipes.

Should be fixed, but the issue continues. When I run the water in the tub, the drum fills with water, rises up, and spills onto the floor. I read that the water level
shouldn’t rise to floor level, and figured it was a moot point to put the drum cap back on to test for leaks. I’m guessing this would just re-direct the water down my walls.

Is there anything else I can try before calling a plumber?

You have a restriction in the drain piping downstream of the drum trap. It might be caused by the piece of soap, if there was already a restriction that wasn't bad enough to back up the water, but the soap has worsened the restriction. The drain piping needs to be cleaned.

Thank you for the input. I used some odormute (enzyme cleaner)down the shower drain and all systems are go today! Such a relief.
