 Plumbing in the far east
Author: sum (FL)

I went to China recently to a city called Santou along the east coast of China.

Stayed at a 5 star hotel and it has an interesting toilet. Now I have seen those Toto toilet seats with 50 temperature and spray settings in Japan, but this is a new one, the entire toilet is a plug in fixture, not the toilet seat but the entire toilet.

The reason is they have moved the flush lever from the side of the toilet tank to the bottom of the toilet bowl so you can flush with the tip of your shoe nudging the button. This is especially popular in newer shopping malls and restaurants.

I saw tanked version of this as well as power flush version of this.

I also saw some exterior DWV plumbing on high rise buildings. These are typically older buildings where the original drains are shot and have to be redone, so the entire building implemented exposed plumbing on the exterior wall and the individual owner rerouted their fixture drains from their home outside to connect to the main drain. I saw signs on the street where plumbers advertised as "Drain Cleaning with no safety scaffolds" and the locals told me these are plumbers who just climb out of the window, hang in mid air like spiderman and run a snake to clear your drain from 20 stories up. They may have a bungie cord tied to a window or balcony frame.

Wow, thanks for sharing this Sum. I had never heard or seen a toilet that flushes like that.
