While trying to figure out why my toilet flushes slowly I found a small piece of plastic sticking out from a siphon jet in the rim. (There's no siphon jet at the bottom.) If I try to grab it with tweezers it pushes back in. I'd rather not unmount it, but even if I do will it shake out? It's a rear-discharge toilet. I tried a vacuum cleaner.

Just a suggestion, might not work. Heat the tip of a length of coat hanger wire red hot and apply it to the piece of plastic. Might melt it or break it up into smaller pieces which can pass through the rim hole.

Thanks. I have a soldering iron. I ended up melting it entirely (I hope.). I could see a conical tip sticking out. When I melted that off I still had a ring that fit perfectly in the hole. I tried to hook it and cut it with an Exacto knife but that just pushed it back in, as though it had a top on it. I can't imagine what it was.
