 Anybody else have vent issues?
Author: Don411 (IN)

Upstairs toilets siphoning each other when flushing, thought I may have a clog. Here's the vent situation:

It was -4* here in Indy this morning, and looks like steam from the shower has melted snow enough to form an ice dam in the vent. Not really anything to do but wait for it to melt, right?

Route an auger up? Blow hot air? Have a compressor?

How about getting on the roof with a long garden hose, one end connected to the washing machine hot valve, the other end stick into the roof top vent pipe, turn water on slow and as it melts turn it higher?

Could also try taking a leak up on the roof aiming the stream at the vent. When neighbors are not looking of course.

Do you have attic access to that pipe? If yes, maybe some heat tape wrapped around it?

There is NO way I'm getting on a snow covered roof! Temps are still cold although the sun has been out and I think the clog is somewhat abated, no more gurgling in the sink when you flush!

I have attic access but I'm not small enough to crawl over to where the pipe is. I recall from the bathroom project that the vent runs horizontal about 6' in the attic before it exits the roof, so the effect of running not water is diminished because the steam is cooling off before it exits the vent.
