For years, I've had a whole house sediment filter located on the foundation wall just inside the entry to the crawlspace of my brick rancher. As I'm up in years now, I would like to make the filter more accessible to change by relocating it to the brick exterior. I do have the crawlspace encapsulated, so the canister has always been protected from freezing.
I do have a crawlspace vent (which is currently sealed off because of the encapsulation) that I could run the water supply lines through to get to and from the filter. Does anyone have any ideas for an insulated enclosure that I could house the filter canister and valves in? Thanks

Insulated enclosure might not be enough, you might also need a bit of heat in the enclosure. How cold does it get in Virginia?

Consider making a list of tasks to hire a handyman to handle once or twice a year. Cleaning and replacing filters, vacuuming refrigerator coils, inspecting the septic tank, etc. A good handyman can do a lot in an hour or two. No modifications to the plumbing required.

Sorry for the delay. I'm in Virginia, so typically, the average temperature here in the mid-Atlantic ranges from lows of mid-20s to highs of mid-40s this time of year.
As I said, there is a sealed crawlspace vent near the filter, which could easily be removed. I'm envisioning an insulated metal enclosure, with the back of it cut out to fit over the existing vent opening in the foundation. That way, the interior of the enclosure would have the same temperature as the rest of the crawlspace.
I'm not crazy about applying heat tape to anything because I don't think it's needed and the plumbing is plastic. I would mount the filter bracket so the piping wouldn't twist when unscrewing the filter.

Your proposed enclosure might work but, remember, the crawl space, while insulated, is not heated. Also sounds like quite a bit of work. While the plastic pex pipes are flexible and will tolerate some freezing, the filter canister will crack if the water freezes.
I am going to echo Dave Mill, you might be better off just hiring somebody to change out the filter every so often.
