 Tub pop up replacement
Author: Tom the Elder (CA)

I left vinegar standing in the tub to removed hard water mineralization - bad idea. Now the gasket on the toe-push style stopper won't seal. I presume the stopper just unscrews. It has no identifying markings. Are these pieces a universal design so it doesn't matter what replacement I get? When you have stopped laughing, is there a way to identify what to get as a replacement other than just eye balling for what looks the same? Thanks

They are not universal, there are many different types. Hopefully, your stopper is from an American brand, in which case it should be possible to source a replacement. The screw threads come in two sizes, the small one being 1/4C and the large one being 5/16C.

Some come with a flat seal, some have an o-ring seal. The shape of the drain flange is not standardized, and more inportantly, the distance between the flange top and the cross-hairs varies, hence almost no chance of a universal one working.
