 Jacuzzi acrylic tub grab bars
Author: sum (FL)

I got an acrylic tub made by Jacuzzi.

It has two clear grab bars that are attached to the tub itself. I am not sure how they are attached. The bars do not rotate and it doesn't seem to be removable.

On each end where the bar connects to the tub, there is a rubber type seal. I have already cleaned all the surfaces, but there is still mildew/mold on the other side of the rubber seals that I can't get to, and the bars are not removable for cleaning it's ends.

A close up picture.

Anyone know if there is a way to remove these bars for cleaning without access to the underside of the tub?

A call to Jacuzzi technical support yield no useful information. They recommended a product called SYSTEM CLEAN which I found out was to clean jets and internal piping pathways and beyond that they have no advice.

When I restored a glass brick wall on a shower, I also ran into black mildew or mold deep within inaccessible joints. What worked best was soaking the area first with lots of vinegar, then chlorine bleach. You might want to try a syringe to get the chemicals in there.

Unfortunately this mechanical and chemical assault will likely further damage that clear seal, accelerating future mildew penetration. You might want to try finding a replacement for that, which would make the cleaning job easier. Good luck.
