 Plastic pipe disaster video
Author: DaveMill (CA)

The Oceana Gothenburg, a huge waterpark under construction in Sweden, burned to the ground in 2024. The cause turned out to be an inexperienced crew misusing heat welding equipment on plastic pipe, which was itself highly flammable. The real plumbers had refused the job. Full details in this video, which is timestamped right to the discovered flaw.

[youtu.be]

Does anyone know if this pipe technology and heat welding technique are used in North America?

Yes. Fuseal is one brand. It's used in chemical labs where wastewater may be corrosive.

Very interesting. In the '70's while working for Los Angeles County Mechanical Department in hospitals and for a laboratory I was fortunate to have experienced my installing ( "welding" ) some PE Fuseal pipe and fittings. Small pipes, nothing as large as the piping shown in the video. I had no idea a fire could be created with improper alignment, etc. Thanks for sharing it.
