 Lav drain assembly choices
Author: sum (FL)

I am exploring options to replace the existing lav drain assemblies that are the traditional pop up drain using a lift rod with a ball rod.

What are some good options if the sinks have overflows?

There are some that are push in to close and push again to open and has a spring loaded clicking mechanism. Seems easy to use but not sure how easy it is to remove to clean off accumulated hair.

and there are some that are lift and turn style you turn and lift it up to open and you rotate until it drops to close.

I think there are some other types, I think I remember seeing one that looks like a coin being trapped in a circle and you can pivot the "coin" to let water through.

Are there other types and in general which is best to allow convenient opening/closing but also allow easy removal to clean?

Highly recommend Phister

They are dirt cheap, very easy to install and work well. The stopper assembly easily unscrews for cleaning access and the stopper threads are plastic, ensuring no corrosion ever.

I agree the push pop style is better and very easy to install some styles just pull right out for cleaning no threads needed

Kohler makes a nice one too, I bought one to replace the drain assembly that came with the Delta lav faucet. The Delta model had a flat flange and no amount of silicone would seal it to the tapered profile of the sink. The Kohler has a nice tapered flange that matched the sink nicely and sealed with minimal silicone.

FYI, the part that you push down to seal the drain unscrews from the drain assembly, so it's easy to remove for cleaning. In George's photo, the silver disc that says "Pfister" just unscrews so that clicker assembly and seal is replaceable without having to remove the whole drain assembly from the sink.
