 Sink, toilet, bathtub=leaking bathroom toilet
Author: JC18SD (CA)

Hello,

A couple a weeks ago when I flush the toilet, water begin to leak from the bottom of the master bedroom bathroom toilet. At first it thought it was just a wax ring and flange replacement issue. I got someone to replace them but the issue still ensued. I then called a plumber and he said there was a clog. He removed the and clear out the clog and replaced the wax ring again.

3 days later the water began to leak from the bottom of the toilet when bathtub was used from my baby’s bath. The company sent out a new plumber with a camera. He got on the roof and said there first plumber must done a soft clear and he could see about 5 feet from the drain was a clog. He removed the clog and mentioned so items in the main sewer line that were further down right near main sewer, didn’t think they affected the clog that was further up.

About 2 weeks after that after using the sink. The bottom of the toilet began to leak again. Now anything water goes down any drain the toilet will leak.

What are my options at the this point? What should I ask the next plumber to do so that I am not given large bills. What can I do to get this resolved once and for all?

Thanks,

-JC

If the camera showed debris down near the main, did the last plumber clean it out? A camera needs to be run back through and see what's blocking the pipe.

Even if there's a clog a toilet seal shouldn't leak. On a separate issue I use rubber toilet seals. They're sturdier and reusable. The Ferncos come with a sleeve about 4 inches long.

It sounds like you may have a more significant blockage or damage in your main sewer line. Here’s what you should do:

1. **Request a Full Sewer Camera Inspection** – Ensure the plumber inspects the entire sewer line, not just the immediate clog, to check for breaks, root intrusions, or buildup.
2. **Hydro Jetting or Snaking** – Ask if a high-pressure hydro jetting service can fully clear out the sewer line instead of just a soft clearing.
3. **Check for Pipe Damage** – If leaks persist, there may be a cracked or misaligned sewer pipe. Ask the plumber if repairs or pipe lining are needed.
4. **Get Multiple Estimates** – If major repairs are suggested, get quotes from at least two companies before proceeding.

Since water from all drains is causing leakage, the issue is likely deeper in the sewer system. Fixing it properly now will prevent ongoing costs.
