Folks,
I will be going on vacation next week and have a few questions on how to handle my heating system while I am away
-I usually turn off the water supply and drain the faucets before I leave during warmer weather
-I live in the north east and plan on lowering my thermostat to 60 degrees and leave my boiler on while away and turn off water supply to house OFF.
Is this recommended?....Note I do not have a low water cutoff installed....Thanx in advance....VSR

I don’t work on boilers too much but not having a low water cut off seems very odd
I would first find out for sure whether you have one or not
If not I would definitely recommend getting one installed
Then you should be able to turn your water off with no issues unless you have an appliance that is constantly going to call for water like a self cleaning ice machine
Also there are many different automatic shutoff valves you can install on your domestic water main to monitor flow and you can turn the water on and off from your phone, which also come with programmable leak sensors to tell you where the leak is most likely coming from

Do not turn off the water to the boiler. It is not just the low water cutoff, pressure has to be maintained inside the boiler to prevent the circulating pump from cavitating.
