Have a Aquabrass Shower thermostatic cartridge. The shower is stuck on one temperature, doesn't change no matter where knob is moved. Took out cartridge and it's built really well, all brass. The outside of the cartridge looks pretty clean, no scale. There was alot of scale in the pipe when removed (almost like sand). Removed all that, but haven't tried to descale the cartridge (assume interior) itself. Normally I just replace the cartridge, but just prices on Guillen's and the it was $290 for replacement that is apparently updated and half plastic. Is it worth trying to clean cartridge or am I just wasting my time and just need to bite the bullet and get the replacement?
Thanks

How old is the valve? Aquabrass has a 5 year warranty on a thermostatic cartridge.

given that there was a (almost like sand).substance in the piping, i would go for a flush and cleaning before spending 300 bucks on a new cartridge that might not solve the problem.

Any recommendations on scale remover? Just LimeAway or any other products you'd recommend?
