 Vent Question, Is this correct?
Author: Don411 (IN)

Hi guys, well the time for bathroom renovation is upon us! We are moving the walls to borrow a foot from the master bedroom to make the master bath a little larger which in turn is requiring a fixture reconfig of the adjacent hall bath. The project is proving to be challenging as I am trying to keep one bath operational while I work on the other.

Here is a quick sketch of the sink layout on the new walls. Full basement below, laundry room directly below and close to the main stack. The wall on the left separates the hall bath from the master bedroom, and I realized that I can't run any piping down that wall because the joist bay directly underneath is boxed in as an air return. The wall on the right separates the hall bath and master bath, and I can't run up through that wall due to framing issues (the wall sits directly under a ceiling joist).

The drain will connect to the 3" toilet drain, and will vent the toilet as well.

Questions:
1. Can this all be 1 1/2" or does part of it need to be 2"?
2. Do I need wyes where the sinks tie into the horizontal run?
3. Anything else wrong?

i can think of easier ways but this will pass code..

BTW, the horizontal vent must be about 42 inches above the floor.

Thanks Packy! I had redrawn this but had issues uploading. Am I correct that only that hashed section of pipe needs to be 2" the rest can be 1 1/2" This will drain into the 3" toilet arm and also vent the toilet.

yeah, that will work fine.
remember the vent can not turn horizontal until it is 6 inches above the flood rim of the fixture/s it serves. so you are safe if you make it 42 above the floor.

Thanks, Packy. Am I correct that it can all be 1.5" except for the shaded section after the master bath drain that needs to be 2"? Since this will wet vent the toilet, I know you need to upsize, but do you have to upsize the whole pipe to the roof or only the portion of the vent that's "wet" from the sink?

in plumbing terms, a wet vent must run "undiminished" in size.

OK, so the 2" needs to run up and across and connect to the roof as 2". The drain from the hall bath can stay 1.5" until it connects to the 2" correct?
