I have a deep well 160'and would like to add a hand pump in the event the electricity goes out. Is that possible and what's involved in the process?

One installer states, that in freezing temperature, you should pump enough water through the pump, to raise the temperature of the exposed hydrant. This will allow the water in the hydrant to weep out after pumping has stopped.

steve... that may work when the temperature is 29 deg F but when its 5 below zero the water will freeze in 15 minutes.
i think i would look for a way to store some water for power outages.

Our well pump fills a tank. If the power goes out, there’s enough water in the tank for days.
