The problem I have is my gas (propane) hot water tank blows out when there is enough wind from the west. And at times it blows over 50 mph here. But even near 15 it tends to blow enough right down the chimney for it to blow out the pilot light. When it is really blowing I have had the fire blow back in my face when I was relighting it. Thankfully that is rare and while scary, no harm was done.
I have put some shields around the chimney cap but of course I can't block it too much. It is much better than it was, but still from the dead west is a problem. It used to be from the north and south as well.
Not sure what to do. I have looked at other caps but I didn't think they would be any better (and likely worse). At least the ones I have seen.
Here is a image of my chimney cap:

I know it is wind, I have even heard it blow out when I was standing by it and a strong gust from dead west comes (there is strong wind here during the winter especially) and poof it is out. If it is from the right direction and spin, I can't keep it lit for long on those really windy days.

you need to buy and install a high wind chimney cap. figure out what type pipe you have and what size. then go to a place that specializes in chimneys. get the correct cap and the problem will be solved.

Thanks. I thought as much but finding one is proving harder than I thought as many I have found said "high wind" and I am sure they would be worse than the one I have lol. I will try to find a place that specializes in it. Thanks again.

Well I had a guy out here from the same outfit that installed the unit and he took one look at it and said they don't have any high wind caps for that. Apparently it is the original mobile home roof jack and he never saw a high wind cap for that. He said I would have to replace the entire chimney to get a high wind cap for it (type b he mentioned several times).
I thought that was odd there wasn't a high wind cap for a mobile home Roof Jack so I did some searching and found a small company that specializes in mobile home parts and they did have a high wind cap for a Roof Jack on a mobile home (the kind I have seen before with slots on the side). So I contacted them and she suggested if my hot water tank was blowing out to get the extension they also sell to raise it up and then put the cap on top of that.
I thought perhaps going up to higher would increase the wind further so I sent a picture asking. At that point she said unfortunately her high wind cap and extension won't work for my configuration.
So I am stumped, do I have the original roof jack or don't I? And if I don't why did the other guy say he never saw a high wind cap that would fit my chimney.
