Insulating copper supply pipe
Author: diyer21g (CA) Hi, Is it necessary to insulate the cold water supply line, where the copper pipes (both hot/cold supply lines) are in the attic of a single story home? This would be in the Los Angeles county area of California. Thank you.

Author: packy (MA) some codes require that the hot be insulated to save energy. if the temperatures don't go below freezing in the winter then you don't need to protect them from freezing but you may get condensation on the cold pipes in the hot humid weather.

Author: diyer21g (CA) Thank you for your response. The inspector said they don't require the cold line to be insulated, but the hot line should be insulated; it also helps to identify the hot water line.
