Hello: I just finished a complete shower renovation, but when the plumber installed the Delta 3 function diverter, either the showerhead and shower handheld wand comes on or goes off, you cannot divert between them.
The plumbing wholesaler says the plumber did not properly cut off something in the wall and they suggested buying a 6 function diverter (Delta T27976-LHP that could solve this problem without tearing the tile out which is not an option.
Just wanted to know if this is possible without going into the wall and a 6 function could work and not have both showerhead and wand on at same time or do I just live with both coming on or going off.
Would this be the only part I would need to buy to solve this problem.
Thanks!

It might depend on how the piping was connected to the valve. What's on the backside of the wall behind the valve?

looking at steves picture, if the plumber piped the installation according to directions, it should work with the 3 position diverter.

According to my new plumber the other plumber must have not capped something off, the 3 function does not work, someone at the plumbing wholesaler suggested buying a 6 function diverter and that should work without tearing tile out, just wanted to know before I bought a 6 function diverter if this would solve the problem thanks

well is someone at the plumbing wholesaler told you it would work and it doesn't, you should be able to return the part as they gave you wrong advice.
