 steel bathtub or vikrell
Author: RR60 (VA)

Need to replace a tub/shower in this new to us house.
Last house used a Sterling Vikrell bathtub and 3 piece wall kit. It did hold up great for 20 years.

This one we want tile walls. The choice is either a sterling vikrell bathtub only. Or porcelain on steel. I think the steel tub looks better since close to cast iron. But hear reports of them not lasting. With the porcelain chipping off. Then some rust.

I thought about getting advice here. Since you guys must see more tubs than anyone.

Thanks for any suggestions.

I would not recommend a steel tub.

Porcleain on steel tub is not any good. They do not make a lower quality tub.

Finish is bad. Hard to clean.

They rust out around the drain, overflow and skirt/supports.

They get low spots where water sits and won't drain out.

Cast iron or acrylic would be my choice.
