Hello,
I was looking to install a multi-stage under sink drinking water filter. I've been doing some research. I know they usually have their own dedicated faucet and plumbing so you don't waste filtered drinking water on dish washing.
I'm troubled that the multi filter models use that flimsy push-to-connect plastic supply line and connector setup. I read reports of leakage. And a few people said they didn't trust the parts and felt they constantly had to look into the cabinet for leaking. Why don't they use stainless steel braided for this?
What is your experience with your under sink drinking water filter? Have you had leaking under your sink?

stainless steel braided is merely a braided cover (supposedly to prevent blow-outs or vermin chewing) over vinyl tube
you want to make sure the supplied tubing is ACTUALLY HDPE (hi density polyethylene)
ps. just as info: PEX is PolyEthylene cross linked {X}

Caution IF the "multi-stage under sink water filter" happens to be or in part uses an ro (reverse osmosis) system THEN absolutely do NOT use metal piping AFTER the ro system and only use plastic piping as ro water will leach copper/metals out of the piping which can both be toxic as well as the metal piping won't last as long (you'll be digesting the leached metal).

They make leak detection devices for under sink water filter systems.
Some are electric/battery operated and some work by a tablet expanding when wet and shuts off the the water.
The expanding tablet stlye are simple and from my experince reliable.

Ok.Thanks. This is all good information to know. I'll have to think about this. For now, I'm going to stick with my PUR kitchen faucet water filter.

I personally have a 10" standard housing with a carbon block filter.
1/4" OD Cu tube into the cabinet from the 'in the wall' fridge icemaker supply box, 1/4" brass compression ball valve, then HDPE plastic into and out of the filter housing serving the icemaker and a countertop water dispenser.
If the smooth undamaged plastic is cut SQUARE using a really sharp 'slicer' so it does not deform there is no problem with the 'push in' fittings.
never a leak, serviceable, worry free
