Many years ago the bathtub spout was dripping water. Due to the tiled wall, the plumber proposed turning the valve on the spout that would have diverted water from tub to shower to see if it stopped dripping. It did. Now I am selling house and loan company will not approve loan until shower is working. Can that little screw thing on the spout be unscrewed to get the shower working or is this a major plumbing/tile effort?

Is it financially wise to postpone closing the sale while you learn how to debug a shower leak? Should you consider calling a plumber on Monday to get the job done quickly and reliably?

I have a call into the plumber. I just thought someone from this forum might tell me how complicated this is. I was looking for info online and this seemed like the logical place to ask the question since I could not find the answer elsewhere.

it is not that complicated to change the whole spout.

Your diagnosis of your issue seems suspect. Blocking off the diverter spout would not have stopped the dripping, the dripping would just have shifted to the shower head.
