 Well Tank Diaphragm concern
Author: Jaberstein (PA)

Hi, I know if a well pressure tank gets waterlogged the diaphragm has a hole in it and is leaking water into the air chamber, but I started to get black water with particles in my well water and I have 2 pressure tanks.

One on the incoming well water, then filters and a water conditioner then a second well pressure tank.

So all the water coming from the 1st pressure tank is clean but after the second tank which is downstream of all the filters the water came out black. Tank is bad no doubt and even still had 38 psi pressure in it but I think the black is the butyl rubber diaphragm degrading from the constant stretching and contracting. I cut the tank to see and the black deposit were all in the bottom water chamber.
I watched at least 12 videos of well pressure tanks but no one ever mentions that the diaphragm can degrade.
Anyone else have this problem.
