 Is this an S trap
Author: major sisu (MN)

I installed a new vanity and discovered I need one more inch of clearance for the P trap to fit.
I can put two 45 elbows to the drain pipe to make the P trap fit.
Does this meet code in MN.
If not, can I cut a hole in vanity shelf for the P trap to fit?
Any other suggestions besides opening the drywall.
Thanks

yes, the pic is an "S" trap

it is NOT code compliant

yes, by all means notch out the cabinet bottom as required

BUT

a small leak may thereby be invisible and do (major) damage

OR

open the wall and 'do it right'

There is drawer under the shelf so all is good.
I don’t even think the p trap protruding through the shelf will hinder the drawer.
Thanks for the reply.

if I had bought the wrong cabinet I would simply remove the cabinet bottom above the drawer COMPLETELY and 'fix' the drawer itself in place

externally pleasing

internally fully functional as a standard cabinet

sum,

agree

but

that is a purchased 'stock' cabinet

said 'design' will not work for the OP as HIS drawer is in a separate lower 'compartment'

modification after the fact would be more $ than a new cabinet

Would venting it before the angle down make it compliant?

yes, but an AAV is only permitted when it can NOT be properly vented

the expense of opening a wall or replacing a cabinet will NOT qualify as a reason for an AAV
