Hi there,

I'm trying to figure what the cause is but here's what's happening. When I shower in the upstairs bathroom, the toilet downstairs starts to leak from the base. I checked the water level on the toilet bowl and it seems normal and so I'm pretty sure it's coming from the base. I looked around online and read that this could be from having an old wax ring on the toilet?

But also, the carpet area on the bathroom entrance is wet as well now. It seems like its coming from underneath the floor? Most likely the pipe?
I'll include the image of it below:




Not sure if this is something I can fix on my own or need to call a plumber. Would be great to get some advice on how I can solve this issue. Thank you!

There is a partial stoppage in the piping downstream of the toilet.

The water is backing up and seeping out through the wax seal which is NOT a pressure tight seal.

If there is no CO in the downstream piping the toilet will need to be pulled and the line snaked through the flange opening.

As the wax seal needs replacing ANYWAY ......................

yeah, as my friend fro0m SC says.. you have a partial stoppage.

the fact that the rug is wet means there is another leak besides the toilet seal.

the stoppage is in a bigger pipe which means a small homeowner snake will not clear it.
probably should call a plumber to clear the stoppage, address the leak under the rug and reset the toilet.
