Hello ppl,
A chopstick slipped down the sink. prompting P-trap removal to retrieve it (in lieu of a trap plug).
The sink"s tailpipe nut is a cinch to remove by hand. The trap's nut is another story. Facing it, I noted the slip nut's *top* faces down; the bottom, up onto a bevel (see image).
ABS can be brittle, so I want to avoid overtorquing the fitting when I go wrenching to remove it, which brings me to the pt of this post: in which direction?

could be either way depending on manufacturer
depends on which piece 'captures' the nut
need a better pic to be certain

your outlet pipe is different but this is how your trap body connects to the outlet pipe you have.

.... PROBABLY connects
or it 'might' have the threads on the trap itself

I based my opinion, that the open end of the nut is facing up, on what looks like a square corner outer edge and also what appears to be a shortened rib.

steve is probably correct
but
a better pic would ensure certainty
but
by now the OP has in fact unscrewed the nut so it is a moot point

I agree with steve, it is just an upside down nut, so wouldn't it be just like any other nut, you are tightening as the nut is rotated HIGHER, you are still tightening clockwise looking up. Isn't this called LA PATTERN TRAP?
