What the secret to installing kitchen sink slip nuts so that they don’t leak?? I just updated some plumbing under our sink and the the slip nuts are slightly dripping, it just doesn’t seem like I can tighten them enough.

Should I use some type of sealant in the threads, maybe Teflon tape or pipe dope…

These slip nuts had red rubber like gaskets as opposed to the hard clear ones I was used to seeing.

Any help would be appreciated.

Alignment of the pipes is very important.

Get some clear rings/washers and see if that stops the leak.

no sealant is needed or even desirable.

check your washers to make sure the tapered side is inserted correctly.

if you call it sealant it is not desirable.
if you call it lubricant it helps.

And, since the oil in "lubricants" can dissolve rubber, it might not be a good idea to use it.

Plastic washer to plastic fitting connection usually means ( lubricant) may be needed

silicone grease is actually good for rubber

what about bacon fat or butter?

The clear rings are the way to go..no leak, no grease, no looking back!
