This is the installation of the garbage disposer at one of my rentals. The model of the disposer is GE Model GFC530F.

Most of my rentals I have Insinkerator disposers. I like that because to remove and replace with another Insinkerator is just to unscrew and screw the new one on, very easy.

My experience with GE or Waste King the disposer is kind of "hanging on" to the rubber gasket and doesn't feel as sturdy.

One other thing the Insinkerator disposers have a hex port at the bottom and sometimes when tenants put foreign objects that hex port helps to unjam things and the GE or Waste King do not have.

So I am debating to change the GE to an Insinkerator, does anyone have an opinion where GE may be better (or worse) in comparison?

In addition, I have two other questions.

(1) I need to make a high loop on the DW drain tube. However there is not enough slack to do so. Is there an easy way to add another say 2-3 feet to the existing tubing so I have some slack to create a high loop?

(2) If I replace the disposer, I am thinking instead of coming out of the disposer with a 90 elbow, then goes back to horizontal to tie in to the right side, I should just go horizontal coming out of the disposer, that means the right side sink tail piece needs to be cut really short. Will that work? Or is a straight horizontal not going to drain better with two 90s?

You can extend the dishwasher drain hose with some automotive heater hose and a hose barb coupler. Or you can buy a longer drain hose for your particular dishwasher, they are available for those situations where the dishwasher is not adjacent to the kitchen sink.

I use 3/4" copper tubing, when I need to make an extension or have a bend that wants to kink a rubber hose.

depot sells a Dishwasher Drain Hose Extension.
as for coming straight out of the side of the disposer, check the dimensions of an isnkerator. the outlet hole may be higher or lower than GE.

I've owned 5 different make garbage disposals
All of them have had hex sockets for turning
the blades manually. I have a collection of
the tools.
'Consumer Reports' has been recommending the
Everbilt 1.25 HP for years. I bought one 2
years ago. It hasn't gotten stuck once and
I've never had clog in the sink since.

I have only used Insinkerator, Waste King and GE. Only the Insinkerators have the hex nut at the bottom for unjamming. All of them have a button at the bottom for thermo cutoff switch. May be it's model specific I don't know.

It's a CR 'best buy', only a few $ more than
smaller units

My Whirlpool had it. I just checked: the
Everbilt doesn't. They recommend using a wood
broom handle, what I do when people don't
have the wrench.

the broom handle trick is to try and move the blades from above (insteading of sticking your fingers in it).

I never had luck with any broom handle. I put my fingers in it to try to feel out what jams it.

My worst nightware in unjamming one is a tenant who throws corn husks down the GD.

Sum,

I have cleaned many garbage disposal drain stoppages in various homes. These inevitably occur at the tee below the sink instead of at the 90 elbow at the garbage disposal. That 90 is immediately next to the output of the disposal pump, so there is a lot of pressure keeping it clear. I don't think your idea will help prevent clogs.

DaveMill,

It just seems to me that two additional 90s coming right out of the disposer is not ideal. May be like you said since it's under pressure when the GD is on but just seems like a straight run - if possible - kind of dictated by the height of the GD as I may not find a tailpiece on the other end with a branch high enough,
