The one at the bottom of the bowl. I have been using this 1/4 in dia rod to scrape away deposits. Anyone using a different tool?

shut the water, flush the toilet, sponge out the water in the bowl to lower than the hole.
now pour a healty dose of CLR down the overflow tube and let it set overnight.

I suck/sponge water out and pour a 1/4 quart bottle of Sizzle (hydrochloric acid) in it. Usually 30 to 60 minutes will clean it out.
Fumes are bad etc....so be careful.
I also use the ISE disposal wrench to bust it out first.

Overnight = second trip to customer's house. So far I have been able to restore flushing performance by using the steel rod.
I judge the flow from the jet by watching the water level at the back of the bowl. Within a fraction of a second after flushing, the level should rise about 3/8 in and then fall back, like a wave. That is when I know the flow is healthy.

Normally I'll just suggest the following to my customer for them to do and save some money. I'll only go over if they're not comfortable doing this:
I use distilled white Vinegar. Empty the bowl. Pour in a gallon of vinegar through the overflow in the tank. (May as well simultaneously demineralize the flush rim). Assuming the gallon is sufficient to seal the toilet trap I let it sit overnight. The fumes aren't a hazard. I usually don't even have to make a return trip.
Caveat: The cities I work in the water is generally 4 grains or 7 grains of hardness so the buildups generally aren't horrific.

Out here people have gotten in the habit of not flushing the toilet every time they go number 1 to save water. Usually the build up in the jet is caused by the urine and vinegar/CLR won't touch it.
Have to use a stronger acid to get rid of it. Sizzle is what works well for me.
Also works good in urinals.

I wil try the hydrochloric acid next time. Scraping with the steel rod does not get rid of a hundred percent of the deposits.
Sizzle is not readily available here. I will try muriatic acid which is cheap and plentiful at the box stores.
