I have a pond and the SCH40 1-1/2" line needs to meet an existing 1-1/2" SCH40 line that is embedded in concrete except for a short section of 6". I need to connect the two but they are not in alignment, off by about 8 degrees.

What is the chance of using a heat gun to bend a short section of SCH40 1-1/2" PVC pipe to create a bend of 8 degrees?

I have done it previously with PVC electrical conduit 1/2" & 3/4" but not 1-1/2", even if I can bend it will the heated PVC be as strong as before since this is pressure application and not drainage.

not a problem.. won't hurt a thing.

I wonder if a heat gun or place into an oven...some say oven heating is more evenly distributed but no idea how high a temperature...150 degrees for ten minutes is good? Got to do it while wife is out because she doesn't like building materials in cooking vessels lol.

Or should I fill it with sand as a kink stopper...

I've used a bbq to heat some pipes for a hot tub.

You could use an electrician's heat blanket which is probably the easiest way. I've straightened out pipes up to 4" although above 3" I use a fast moving torch or Milwaukee heat gun. You probably want to heat near the concrete and only go up about 4" so you don't soften the end of the 1-1/2 pipe. But you should heat as much of the length of the pipe as you can so the bend can be as gradual as you can make it.

When the 1-1/2" pipe bends easily that's when you stop heating. I usually have a sopping wet rag handy to cool the pipe as quickly as I can while holding it in the desired position.
