My wife and I have had waterline hammering in recent weeks. We replaced the valve in the attached image but hammering continued. A plumber recommended installing a pressure check valve. Seeking recommendations. See the attached image.

Where are you hearing the water hammering inside the house?
When exactly does the water hammering occur? When the exterior irrigation system is changing sprinkling zones? When it shuts off?
The water piping inside is copper?
So, the speed of the water in the pipe could be too fast in feet per second. It can be slowed down by increasing the diameter of the pipe.
Or, maybe the pipe isn't secured well. If the piping is accessible you may lessen the sound by properly securing the pipe so it doesn't hit the wall, stud, etc.
You might also consider installing a properly sized water hammer arrestor as close as possible to the quick closing valve that is most likely causing the hammer.
