 Moen Motion Sense Kitchen Faucet
Author: george 7941 (Canada)

I cannot figure out how this faucet works. I took it apart. Cartridge looks exactly like a 1255, I do not see any difference.

The only wetted part in the faucet body is the hose from the control module passing through the faucet body to the spray head. The control module is mounted under the sink and has the hot and cold supplies coming to it and the outlet hose going to the spray head.

There is circuitry in the part which mates with the cartridge.About the only explanation I can come up with is that the circuitry contains optical sensors which tracks the movements of the white ceramic in the cartridge and relays this information to the control module so that it can appropriately control the water flow, including the temperature.

No problem with the faucet, I am just trying to figure out how it works. I am hesitant to call Moen with a higly technical question because the CS reps will not know anything about it. I should try and get through to an engineer.

The one on the right is the Motion Sense cartridge, the left one is the 1255.

I tried a 1255 cartridge and it fits but does not work in this faucet. So even though the cartridges look identical, they are different. This begs the question, if Moen was going with a new cartridge, why would they design it to look identical to the 1255?

I will call Moen.
