Toilet bowl water draining out after fill
Author: Jim A (IL)

My new Toto Drake 1.6 gal flush toilet flushes fine. But then the water slowly, over the course of 30 or so minutes, drains out of the bowl. There is only about an inch left in the bottom of the bowl. I do not think it is siphoning as the water level eventually goes so low. It looks like it is below the trap level. The toilet is on the 2nd floor and there is no apparent leak showing on the 1st floor. Unfortunately, I had a 30 day return window from Amazon and I did not install it until about 35 days after purchase. Any thoughts on how to fix the problem will be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance. Jim A

Does the toilet have an integrated porcelain trap or a Toto unifit adapter?

Sounds like a defect toilet to me. I would contact the manufacturer and see about getting a replacement if Amazon is unwilling to replace it.

There could be a crack or defect in the bowl inside the trap where you can’t see causing this issue
Also a partial clog in the pipe leading to the stack can cause this issue
I would try the 5 gallon bucket test to eliminate the possibility of a partial clog if all good
Pull the toilet take it outside or place it in a bathtub and fill the trap with water then wait 30 minutes and see if the water level has decreased if it has you most likely have a crack somewhere

Thanks for everyone's input. I contacted toto and sent them pics and videos. They said it was probably a vent problem but I told them I had a toilet in the same position for 30+ years without a problem. Also another toilet on the same vent without a problem and no fluctuations upon flushing. Toto is sending a new toilet bowl. I must return the old one in the box. They are paying shipping. New one coming in 5-7 days.
