i'm not familiar with that one.
in fact an internet search of "tub spout adapters" does not show it ????
the vast majority of similar adapters all screw into or over a fitting.
yours is strange because it slips over copper tube.
is there a set screw on the very bottom?

Thank you for your reply! There is no set screw. This part was inside the old tub spout and I can see a similar piece inside the new tub spout. Just not sure how to get it off as I don't want to damage anything. I don't know if the caulking is a factor in keeping it stuck. MAybe I will remove that and then apply some wd40??

Sounds like a plan.

Remove the caulk, gently try to twist off while pulling using channel-lock pliers.

(use plumbers putty, not caulk, for the new spout)

Thanks! I appreciate all the help. Would you use WD40?

Success! Finally had to use a hacksaw to remove that piece but the new tub spout slipped on and works beautifully. Thanks everyone.
