 Moen Shower not working
Author: semmiiii (NV)

I have changed the shower cartridge, but when reassembled such the shower is not working. During the installation process and before installation of the new cartridge, I even verified water is coming out of the value and flushed such to make sure any debris were flushed out. However, upon installing the new cartridge no water is coming out of the shower head. Additionally, I have checked the head for any blockage and even left the head off, but no water is going up into the riser. What is still wrong/the problem.

Are both hot and cold supplies open to the valve? Does the valve have a separate pressure balancer spool/cartridge?

Thanks for your reply and assistance with my issue. As for as I know both hot and cold are open to the value, as when flushing out the value prior to installing the new cartridge the water rushing out was tempered with both cold and hot thus being warm. There appears to be only the one Moen cartridge and with replacing the cartridge in my bathtub/shower combination in our Jack and Jill bathroom that corrected a similar issue, so I am completely baffled as to why upon replacing the cartridge did not fix this issue. Now some back story on this particular shower is that it is in our casitas, which we hadn’t use that shower for several years. Additionally, the water pressure was dropping inside the main house recently until we were going to need to use this shower, turn on the shower and found out that it wasn’t working; no water flow. However upon turning on that shower faucet only to find out that water was not flowing through it, miraculously the house pressure came back to normal. So some sort of connection between the two I presume, but again not sure why replacing the old cartridge did not address the faulty casitas shower?

Thanks for your reply and assistance, but the Momen cartridges have a tab which reads H/C that has to be inserted in the correct position for it to be read/seen; thus ensuring that it is installed correctly. Additionally, I have replaced other cartridges in my other bathrooms using the same technique with no issue; but even then I thought did they manufactured this one incorrectly and thus tried installing it with rotating the cartridge 180, still to no avail. So thanks for the suggestion, but unfortunately it is installed correctly. Any other thoughts?

If the other shower uses the same cartridge, swap them and see if the problem follows the cartridge.
