need help replacing a pressure balancing unit
Author: yychplbg (CT)

The hot water started to leak heavily from an old shower tub faucet. Don't know the brand and model of the unit. First tried to replace the springs and seats, as well as the cartridge [www.amazon.com], but did not fix it. Now I am guessing I need to replace the pressure balancing unit. However, I could not figure out how to remove the old one. Please see the pictures at [drive.google.com].

The pressure balancing unit seems lose in the mixing house cuz I can move it a bit. There is a retaining O-ring to hold it. The O-ring is also lose, I can move it back and forth a bit too. Could anyone let me know how to remove the balancing unit? Or in the worst case, do I need to replace the whole valve to get it fixed? Thank you very much for any info and suggestions.

Have you tried pulling it straight out with needle nose pliers?

Yes, I did. But to be honest, I did not try it very hard. The metal ring is in the way to block it.

Is this an o-ring, that's retaining the spacer ring?

No, it is not. Just a dark color.

Update: after spraying some WD-40, I pulled out the unit easily. Have placed an order of it online. Thanks you Steve.
