Woodford yard hydrant Y34 installed too high
Author: ANJ (IL) When my new Woodford hydrants were installed in my barn, the plumbers installed a size that is 1 foot longer than it should have been. Is it possible to take the head off and cut the pipe down and then re-thread and re-intall the head?Their solution was I should build a box around it and stand on the box to fill the buckets. Can you believe that one? Thank you!

Unfortunately the stop is on the bottom of the hydrant
There is also a drain port at the bottom which when in the off position allows the riser to drain and keep from freezing
The only real solution is to have the plumber dig down further and set the hydrant at the proper specified height
Those hydrants usually are 6’ tall around here the frost line is 4’ deep so 4’is buried and 2’ is exposed above grade
