How to remove this type of faucet handle
Author: telengard (NH)

I have a small leak in my kid's bathroom sink. I read you can possibly just change out a cartridge etc to fix the leak. However, I haven't been able to figure out how to remove the handle from the sink as I've seen in countless videos. Is it possible there isn't a way to do that w/ this sink?

I've attached a pic. Hopefully I'm just missing something. The top definitely does not seem to be a cap. I've tried everything to get it off, it seems to just be a decorative lip. There's also no set screw, and the bases are very tight against the granite.

Here's a picture:

EDIT: moved the pic to gdrive as dropbox was having permission issues.

Permission needed to access dropbox. Can you post the actual .jpg?

"seems the top 'button' should either pop off or unscrew"

there isn't a button, it looks like one but it is just a little beveled edge. The 4 ends of the cross have the same kinda thing. I've tried so many times to take that off and it is not something that can be removed.

Have you checked to see if any of the prongs will unscrew giving access to a retaining screw?

That's looking like possibly a Hansgrohe faucet. Try and unscrew the barrel, located below the cross and the handle might come off with the barrel.

That's the one, thank you!

It seems the handle is independent of the bottom part (which seems to be a solid piece). I say this because one of the handles is loose and jiggles.

The cross is retained to the stem by the barrel, but is free to turn without the barrel turning each time you turn the water on and off. Unscrewing the barrel will allow both the cross and barrel to be removed as an assembly.
