Huge Water Usage on meter with no water flowing
Author: JASPECK (AL)

I recently moved here and the first water bill I received was abour $500.

I have no pool. 3 spikes outside, 3 toilets, dishwasher, laundry room, 2 showers.

I live alone with my husband. We use very little water and there is no sign of any water leakage. The water company told me that about a week after we moved in there was water usage flowing daily for about 6 weeks. at the tune of about 2700.

I had no toilet leaking or anything in the house or yard turned on. I'm sure of this. They said the meter was ok. It was strange that all of a sudden after they came and checked the meter, it stopped shortly thereafter. What could cause this and is there any recourse.

I went to talk to them, but no real help. They just said I used the water. I say I didn't. I'd like to know how this could happen? The property has a grinder on the property.

Please Help.

500 for how long ? around here 4-500 is normal for 3 months for a family.

i can't believe the town would send out some employees who would lie about the meter. they have no reason to. they would report a bad meter and your bill would be adjusted.

What is this "grinder" that you say is on the property? Is it a commercial/industrial facility, tapping into your water line? Does the grinder use water for lubrication, flushing, etc? Lots of questions that need to be answered. The meter maybe working properly but the water usage is way out of line for a single family.
