 Bathtub faucet replacement
Author: MC122 (NY)

Hi there,
Our bathtub faucet broke and we need to replace it. We removed the old spout and a 2.5 inch threaded pipe is coming out of the wall. I can’t seem to find a replacement option that works. Any ideas? I don’t want to remove the pipe if I don’t have to, we will be redoing the bathroom at some point within the next year. I am clueless with plumbing. The old faucet just screwed on with no additional attachment pieces but it is ancient.

Get a spout that requires a long feed pipe. You can make an extension for the existing feed pipe, by soldering a female adapter to a short copper pipe and soldering a male adapter to the other end.

if you are going to redo the bathroom soon, just screw a 90 onto the stubout.
seal the hole in the wall to keep water out and hang a facecloth over it.

To go along with packy, you could also use a threaded chrome hose bib to switch between tub and shower,if it’s a tub shower combo
