Leaking outdoor hose connections to hose storage
Author: campbhl (AL)

I am dealing with two different hose storage devices, the ones where you roll the hose up into. They both either have gaskets that are leaking or damaged threading that is causing water to leak around the hose connections to the hose storage devices.

The parts to possibly fix the problems weren't expensive, so I bought a few different alternatives; however, nothing works. I have tried a new gasket in combination with various size o-rings. The large ones, o-rings, were so large that I couldn't screw the hose connection back together, and the smaller ones didn't stop the leak.

I tried a really cool looking gasket, with an extension that fits up into the hose (copyright to whomever made that thing). No luck. Question, am I supposed to turn that thing so that the part that inserts into the hose is inserted into the other side of the connection upon screwing the two sides back together, thus bypassing damaged threading?

I know that it's not too expensive for me to just buy two new hose extensions; however, I figured I'd see what the forum says.

I tried to search for similar posts; however, I may not have known the appropriate terminology.

Thank you=)

Sounds like you need an O-ring size in between too big and too small...sizes come in very small increments, maybe try a hardware store or somewhere with a big selection, or get an assortment kit from Harbor Freight. Also a little Vaseline or petroleum lube will help the O-ring slide back into the housing and seal it as it rotates.

If the larger o rings prevent you from screwing the hose connection back together, try using smaller ones that fit properly. There are several size options available in the market. Ensure that the o ring is seated properly in the groove and doesn't get pinched or displaced during reassembly.

Also, if you have a gasket with an extension that fits into the hose connection, it's possible that the extension is meant to be inserted into the other side of the connection upon screwing the two sides back together. This could provide a bypass for damaged threading and create a better seal. Follow the instructions or manufacturer's recommendations for this specific gasket to ensure correct installation.
